The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) today continued its formal recertification process for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line substantive operational license.
Following the initial facility inspections at Oyingbo and Ikeja, the NRC delegation boarded the Red Line for a full-service assessment transit from Oyingbo to Agbado.
During the ride, officials engaged with passengers who expressed high satisfaction with the service but strongly clamored for an increase in trip frequency, particularly requesting dedicated operations on Saturdays.
This exercise is a key regulatory step to transition LAMATA from its current one-year temporary license to a substantive operational license.

The delegation led by Mr. Oyekunle Oyewole (Head of BuPED), and other members of the NRC team, including Mr. Adegoke Omojola and Barr. N. Nnorom—is focused on ensuring the system maintains the rigorous safety and efficiency standards required for long-term rail service.
This recertification comes at a pivotal moment as the Lagos State Government prepares to receive new rolling stock. While the Red Line currently operates nine passenger trips daily, the arrival of these new train sets will allow the system to scale up operations significantly and meet the growing public demand for more frequent trips.

The LAMATA rail team, including Engr. Joseph Akinpelu, Mr. Akinwale Akintola, and Mr.Ayo Azeez continues to coordinate closely with the NRC to finalize this licensing phase and move toward a more robust transit schedule for all Lagos and metropolitan area residents.
