The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is proud to announce that its Managing Director/CEO, Engr. (Mrs.) Abimbola Akinajo, FNSE, has been appointed as the Chair of the UITP Africa Division – 2025 to 2027.

This announcement was made during a key meeting of the Africa Regional Committee, held at the recently concluded UITP Summit in Hamburg, Germany.

Engr. Akinajo, who previously served as the Vice Chairman of UITP Africa, now steps into the leadership role, succeeding Mr. Edwin Mukabanah, Managing Director of Kenya Bus Service Management, who was celebrated for the successful completion of his tenure as Chair of UITP Africa Division.

The meeting in Hamburg provided a crucial platform for members of the Africa Regional Committee to deliberate on the strategic direction of UITP’s actions across the African continent. It offered an opportunity to reflect on regional priorities and align them with UITP’s overarching global initiatives.

Ms. Renée Amilcar, President of UITP, lauded the increasing involvement of UITP in Africa and acknowledged the concrete actions already underway across the continent.

Mohamed Mezghani, UITP Secretary General, further reinforced this sentiment, leading interactive discussions that highlighted the strengthened collective commitment to public transport that is sustainable, inclusive, and tailored to African realities.
