STAGES OF COMPLETION OF MAINTENANCE WORKS

The drive, determination and commitment with which LAMATA has tackled its road maintenance task is underscored by the fact that some of the 59 routine and 22 recurrent contracts have reached about 70% completion while others are at various stages of completion. On the periodic maintenance works, it is noteworthy that the following 17 roads have been completed:

Periodic lot 1

Periodic lot 2

Periodic lot 3

Iganmu Road

Adelabu Street

Ladipo Oluwole Avenue

Randle Avenue

Adeniran Ogunsanya Drive

Balogun Road

Wakeman-Borno Street

Sipeolu Street and

Oba Akinjobi Street

Church Street

Olumo Street

Tinubu/Oyewole Street

Savage Street

Majolate Street

Ogunlana Drive

Akanbi Street

Glover Road

These roads are now a delight for commuters to drive on because they have been provided with new asphalt overlays and concrete walkways, as well as concrete lined drains to prevent flooding. In addition, they will soon be provided with adequate Traffic System Measures such as road markings, new signages and traffic lights.

Periodic maintenance will still be carried out on portions of many more roads before the end of 2004. Such roads include Market Street, Abule Ijesha Road, Diya Street, Jagunmolu Street and Shogbamu Street in Periodic Lot 1; Docemo Street, Freeman Street, Upper Street, Williams Avenue, Adetayo Osho Street, George Street and Igbobi College Road in Periodic Lot 2; Oshodi Road, Isolo Road and Fatai Atere Street in Periodic Lot 3.

All these efforts and investments in road development are in preparation for the Mass Transit system which LAMATA intends to develop for the Lagos metropolis. The plan is to put in place systems such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT), to move large numbers of commuters at the same time.
