PRESS RELEASE
Drive carefully, observe traffic rules this festive seasons – Mobereola
Managing Director of the Lagos metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola has appealed to motorists, particularly commercial drivers to obey traffic rules and reduce speed to stay alive into the New Year.
Dr. Mobereola made the appeal in his office against the backdrop of increased activity on the road by motorists.
“I want to sincerely appeal to motorists, particularly commercial drivers to spare a thought at this time of the year when more accidents are recorded. This is not the time drivers can make money they have not made in the last 11 months,” he admonished.
Dr. Mobereola said LAMATA was poised to reform the state transportation system through the implementation of inter-modal transportation, which would be synchronised with one another. With the system in place, he said people would be able to travel from one point to the other in predictable time.
He said the implementation of the system lead to a considerable reduction in traffic congestion around the metropolis just as the State Government in the new year pursues the dredging of three ferry routes being opened up to promote water transportation.
The three routes are Ikorodu to Marina (CMS) via Oworonshoki and Ebute Ero;LASU (Ojo) to Marina (CMS) via Ijegun Egba and Liverpool (Apapa) and Osborne to Marina.
He assured that government was committed to alleviate the transport challenges being faced by Lagosians by ensuring that the private sector drives the sector.
“We are encouraging the private sector under the Public Private Sector Participation (PPP) to bring in low-bed waterbuses that ensure safety of commuters,” he said.
Dr. Mobereola urged Lagosians to keep faith with the government in the quest to reform the transport system and change their lifestyle.
