THE PROJECT
LAMATA is to be the facilitator and executor of the Lagos Urban
Transport Project (LUTP), a project designed to improve and
sustain an efficient public transportation system that supports
poverty reduction, provides economic opportunities and promotes
viable communities.
Components of LUTP
LUTP is made up of five major components which roughly
correspond to the six-point transportation strategy of the
government:
Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building:
Urban Road
Network Efficiency Improvement

vehicle operating costs.

main road network and drainage system

Enhancement

an effective bus regulator framework.

bus pilot scheme.

Encouragement of
bus re-fleeting by the private sector

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system
Water & Non
Motorised Transport Promotion

Privatisation of
existing state owned ferries

Encouragement of
non-motorised transport e.g. provision of facilities for
bicycles and pedestrians.

judicious addition to existing terminal facilities.
